Training workshop on the agricultural modelling (CAPRI model)

On September 18-20, 2018 experts in modelling participated on the CAPRI training session organised by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala.

On September 18-20, 2018 at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Uppsala, a training session was held on the CAPRI agricultural model, in which the experts in agricultural modelling from LIFE Climate CAKE PL project participated, namely: Marian Mraz, dr hab. Adam Wąs, dr Paweł Kobus and dr Vitaliy Krupin.

CAPRI is a partial equilibrium model that focuses its attention on the detailed European Union’s agricultural sector (the supply module), while taking into account possible market changes on a global scale (the market module). The model also allows for estimation of greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector.

The training session was conducted by experienced scientists who are also co-creators of the model: Torbjörn Jansson, Peter Witzke, Alexander Gocht, Maria Blanco, Franz Weiss and others. In total, 35 participants took part in the training, mostly experts in the field of agricultural development coming from various institutions of the European Union. In addition to lectures and practical sessions, there was a continuous exchange of knowledge between the participants during the training.

Theoretical and practical knowledge gained during the training will be helpful in building the agricultural model of the LIFE Climate CAKE PL project, in which the partial equilibrium approach is also implemented. The method of including greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture in the CAPRI model, divided according to the types of agricultural activities and the types of production, allows for a better understanding of the possibility of implementation such a solution in the model, which is currently being created at LIFE Climate Cake PL.
